Choosing new glasses can be an overwhelming task when you have an endless amount of choices and don’t know where to start. To help you get a better idea of the types of glasses that will look best on you, here are a few tips to help you pick out the perfect frames.
Face Shape
Round Face
If you have a rounder face, steer your eyeglass frame choices towards square or rectangular shapes. As these shapes are usually wider than a rounded face, they’ll work effortlessly to slim it down significantly. Elongate your face and balance out your feature with boxy glasses that are completely rimmed, as rimless frames can make the roundness of your face more prominent. For this reason, it’s also best to avoid small and rounded frames.
Oval Face
Eyeglass frames that have a strong bridge, hold a geometric shape and are wider than the widest part of your oval-shaped face are the best option for you. However, avoid glasses that are overly large on your face and cover more than half of it. These factors will distort the natural symmetry of your features.
Square Face
As square-shaped faces have strong features, you’ll want to balance them out with a soft frame that sits towards the top of the bridge of your nose. Eyeglass frames that are oval or rounded in shape will provide the best balance for your angular features. Going for a frame that’s square or contains sharp angles will make your facial features appear bulky.
Diamond Face
Playing with the narrowness of your forehead and chin, look for eyewear that’s wider than your cheekbones or sweeps upward, like cat-eye glasses or oval frames. This will make your cheekbones and other delicate features stand out.
Heart-Shaped Face
With a heart-shaped face, you’ll be looking for glasses that balance out the width of your forehead with the narrowness of your chin. To accomplish this, look for frames that sit lower on the temples and have heavy frame lines towards the bottom. Choosing a rounded or square frame with curved edges will draw attention to the lower half of your face. While any frame shape can work with a heart-shaped face, avoid anything with colours or designs that draw attention towards the forehead and temples.
Frame Colour
Just as the shape of your face will determine which frame will look the best on you, so does your skin tone when it comes to choosing coloured frames. If you have a cooler skin tone, meaning there are pink or blue undertones to your skin, stick to neutral colours, pinks, blues and purples, as these won’t wash out your complexion. If you’re working with a warmer skin tone that has gold, bronze or yellow undertones, avoid black, white and pastel-coloured frames. Instead, look for colours like a light tortoise, gold, browns, beige and olive green.
Your Lifestyle
If you’re going to be wearing these eyeglass frames on a daily basis, then consider the types of activities you do.
