Determining an individual’s visual field is important in the diagnosis of many disorders, in particular, the disorders of the optic nerve and the brain. These disorders include glaucoma (a disease of the optic nerve), brain tumors and strokes. The computerized visual field analyzer systematically plots the field of vision using threshold testing, which determines retinal sensitivity and its deviation from the age related norms.
Orangeville Optometric Centre uses several technologies for this purpose. Two such instruments are the Humphrey Visual Field Analyser (HFA) and the Heidelberg Edge Perimeter (HEP). Having the advantage of incorporating multiple technologies allows us to detect diseases earlier and with much more confidence. Below are sample printouts of both instruments.
